#MusicMonday Brandy And Monica Ready New Collabo
January 30th, 2012By James Dinh
R&B worlds will collide once again when Brandy and Monica’s brand-new collaboration “It All Belongs to Me” drops on Tuesday (March 6) — more than a decade after their mega-smash “The Boy Is Mine” ruled the charts.
According to Billboard, the two songbirds have teamed up with Rico Love for the cut, which will appear on both of their forthcoming album efforts. Talk about some deja vu! News of this reunion is far from a surprise though as both of the singing divas took to Twitter in early January to confirm the project. Source: Billboard
“We have Both Been Blessed Beyond Measure..14years later.. #TURNTHELIGHTSON ❤Love,” Monica tweeted. Twitter Post
And if you’re wondering who exactly is to credit for this R&B reunion, then look no further than Monica herself. In an interview with Rap-Up.com, the super producer revealed that Monica knew the song was a future duet from the minute she first listened to the song. “It was Monica’s idea originally because Monica heard the record and she was so excited about it,” he said. “She was like, ‘Yo, I really think that this should be that thing, that next duet.’ Then [RCA Records executive] Peter Edge and [Chameleon Records CEO] Breyon Prescott put it together.” Source: Rap-Up.com
Asked to describe the track, Love stressed that the song will prove to have staying power, saying, “It’s a very soulful R&B song with pop sensibilities. I wanted to make sure I made it a classic R&B record, but I definitely wanted to make sure that it had enough appeal to cross over and become a Top 40 record.”
It’s a title similar to a line from the boy battling ’90s tune, but here’s to hoping that the forthcoming single ignites radio airwaves just as they did fourteen years ago. Rejoice in the news by turning back the hands of time and watching the girl vs. girl clip for “The Boy is Mine” below!
